Resetting or Stopping a Seat Belt Alarm
If your seat belt alarm wonāt stop due to a malfunction, you can reset it through the vehicleās built-in sequence or use a seat belt stopper. Keep in mind: driving without a seat belt is illegal in most states, and for your own safety, you should always buckle up.

Things to Know Before You Start
-
Many cars allow you to reset the seat belt alarm using a simple ignition and buckle sequence.
-
If you donāt want to wear a seat belt, a seat belt clip/stopper can silence the alarm by plugging into the buckle.
-
If you do plan on wearing your seat belt but need more room, use a seat belt extender instead.
1.Ā Start and shut off the car
- This sequence will disable a seat belt alarm in most vehicles, but not all of them. If you try these steps and they donāt work, check your user manual for specific instructions.

2. Buckle up and turn the ignition to ON

3. Buckle and unbuckle quickly
- In order for this to work, you need to move fast! Try to do this step within 10 seconds.

4. Turn the car off
Either turn your key or press your engine button. When you do this, youāll probably hear a ādingā to indicate that your seat belt alarm is off.Ā When you turn your vehicle back on, there will be no more alarm!

- The seat belt light on the dashboard will still come on, but your car wonāt ding.
- Typically, disabling the alarm will last for multiple trips. If the alarm ever comes back on, you can follow the same steps to turn it back off again.
